Leceta and Alexander Chisholm Guibault’s journey from chance meeting to family is at the heart of OUR Guatemala: Travel With Purpose.
They first met in 2012 at a Guatemalan orphanage where Leceta was volunteering and Alex was working as a translator. What began as a connection built on empathy and understanding grew into a powerful bond that transcended borders. In 2016, their relationship was formalized through adoption, uniting them as mother and son.
Together, they’ve transformed their shared story of healing, hope, and belonging into a mission — creating meaningful, purpose-driven travel experiences that uplift communities and inspire connection across cultures.

Before finding Our Guatemala I never knew how I would be able to connect with my birth country now that I am grown. But since I did join Team Take Root, I could not be more grateful for the experience I had with Leceta, Alex, and all the amazing people who helped put together a trip of a lifetime. Our Guatemala is basically one big family that truly cares about making your experience in Guatemala comfortable, meaningful, and fun! Team Take Root genuinely changed my life. When the opportunity of joining the team in the summer of 2026 came to my attention I knew it was time to leap back into Guatemala for the first time since I was born there. Because it was my first time back I was a bit nervous, but all those nerves went away within hours of arrival. Due to the preparations Leceta and Alex had planned out, the people, and the overall warmth and excitement the group had. My brother (who is also adopted from Guatemala) accompanied me and we both can say we made friendships and memories to last a lifetime. Raising donations to build beds for elders, bunk beds for children, and desks for a school was just step one. Then actually going to Guatemala and being a part of giving back touched my heart in a way I could never truly relay. I could not thank Our Guatemala enough for the amazing experience I got to be a part of. OUR Speaking Engagements
Leceta and Alex have co-presented their journey, “Looking at My Past, I Found My Future,” to more than 400 audiences, reaching over 35,000 people across 32 U.S. states, four Canadian provinces, as well as Guatemala and Colombia. Their audiences have included students—from age-appropriate elementary levels through university master’s programs—First Nations communities, child welfare professionals, child abuse and trauma prevention organizations, churches, adoption and foster care communities, educators, and more.
